Preventative Healthcare Schemes for Vets.
Most of your clients want the best for their animals - especially when it comes to their healthcare. But, even with the best intentions, it isn't always easy to find the money for treatment when it is needed.
With Scallywags, you can offer your clients a way to spread the cost of veterinary treatment over the whole year - in easy monthly payments. The scheme also regularises your income from preventative treatments to create a stable and predictable cashflow.
What's special about Scallywags?
A lot of vets recommend pet insurance - and quite rightly. It provides excellent protection against the unexpected. But it doesn't help with the annual expense of important preventative treatment. If a pet is lucky enough to avoid injury and illness during the year, its owner will still have to find money for vaccination and flea and worm treatments. Scallywags allows your clients to provide for these routine treatments and unexpected veterinary cost in one simple plan.
How does it work?
Each practice has its own unique scheme.
1. You tell us how much you charge for 12 months preventative treatment for the chosen species, based on our list of essentials and your own recommendations. For example, for cats and dogs we ask that you include;

2. We divide the cost, less any discount you want to allow your scheme members, by 12. This becomes the monthly cost of your preventative scheme. The calculation might look like this (figures are for example only).

3. All clients applying for your preventative scheme will be asked, on the application, to consent to our sending them information on our optional Which? Best Buy pet insurance. We will ensure that your clients receive everything they need to make an informed decision. If they choose to take up the insurance cover we will arrange to collect the monthly premium at the same time as the monthly preventative fee.

Payment to your practice
Every month we will send you 1/12 of the annual cost of each pet's preventative programme. So, taking the above example prices, if you had 10 dogs of 10- 25 kg on your scheme, we would send you £100 per month. If, like some of our practices, you had 500, we would send you £5,000 per month.
Preventative Treatment
Regular monthly payments from us mean that you don't need to charge the owner or claim from us. The money is paid directly into your bank every month. All you have to do is ensure that the pet is provided with the agreed preventative treatment when the owner asks for it.
Which Species can be included?
Scallywags can provide a budget plan for any species for which you can devise a preventative treatment regime. Obviously cats and dogs are the most popular, but scheme are also in place for horses and we have been asked recently to look at exotic pets.
To simplify the process as much as possible, each Scallywags insurance client is provided with a claim form, freepost envelope and clear instructions of how to submit a claim. The claim form allows them to indicate if if they would like us to settle their account directly with their vet and our staff are always available by phone to advise and assist.
